The TargetSelect Menu
This menu contains functions for retrieving and storing target positions
and images.
Search for Object Position
This option opens the Target Selector
window. The Target Selector window provides the ability to search on-line
astronomical catalogs (such as NED or SIMBAD) for objects and to then choose
an object to be the current target of interest. (Note that from this
menu the target would not be added to the proposal. If you would like
to use the Target Selector to add a target to the proposal, please use
the one available from the Targets Folder in APT.)
Select Image
Opens the Image Chooser
window. This window allows you to load an image from various databases
(such as the DSS or NED).
Open Local Image File
Read a local image into the VTT. This function opens a dialog box which
allows you to enter the name of the file. Only FITS files can be
ingested.
But not all FITS images will load: see Loading
Other Images for more information.
Close All Images
With the addition of image layering, this
option is necessary for closing the current image and starting over in
a different area of the sky.
Batch Image Retrieval
Simply points to the documentation for the command line batch image retriever tool.
Save FITS File
Saves the current image to your local disk as a FITS file.
Save Screen Snapshot
Saves the current screen to your local disk. The snapshot will contain
all the overlayed items, such as apertures, sky model objects, etc., that
are on the current image at the time of saving. This option opens a dialog
box that allows you to select the location of the new image file. This
dialog box also allows you to select the format of the new image file (GIF
or JPEG) and also whether to save the current view or the entire image.
