StarView Interface
StarView is the graphical interface to the HST archive. When you
have a network connection available, you can invoke StarView from
the VTT to query for what observations have been made near a
particular pointing. All or any subset of results can be
graphically displayed in the VTT. (Conversely when in StarView you can
invoke the VTT to graphically represent StarView query results.)
Here is a quick introduction:
- Bring up an image in the VTT.
- Click on the
icon in the left hand tool bar. (This puts you
in the StarView mode.)
- Place your cursor on a point on the image and click. The StarView
interface will be loaded and set up to perform an HST archive query
for the pointing that you clicked on.
- In StarView, click on "Search". (Before clicking on "Search" you may choose to
change the radius of the area searched or limit the types of
observations searched for.)
- When the results of the query are returned you can highlight one or more
listed observations and have the aperture outline displayed in the VTT.
Just click on the "Overlay" button.
