Integrated Phase II Visual Target Tuner
Intended Use:
The APT contains two versions of the Visual Target Tuner. The
standalone version that has previously been available, and a version
integrated with the APT proposal editor. This integrated version now
supports all of the science instruments and almost all of the relevent
information that may be specified with HST observations (Orients,
Patterns in the Pos Targ reference frame, Pos Targ exposure offsets,
Parallels, Same Pos As). The integrated version also supports the
capability to change some targets and exposures through the graphical
interface. Targets and exposures can be moved and the position changes
saved to the proposal. Also, visit level Orientation special
requirements may be modified in the VTT and the results saved to the
proposal. Some limitations exist and these are described below. For
additional information see the APT FAQ & Bug List .
Limitations
- Moving targets - Display of moving targets is not supported.
- Patterns in the celestial reference frame - These are not
displayed by the VTT. You will only see the base exposure - not the
subexposures. Note that some canned NIC patterns (MAP, SPIRAL-MAP
SKY-ONE-CHOP, SKY-TWO-CHOP, SKY-SPIRAL-DITH-CHOP) are done in the
celestial reference frame.
- Ramp Filters - When using ramp filters (WFPC2 or ACS) the pointing
of the telescope is different than with other filters, but this
difference is not take into account in the VTT.
- There are some limitations on making changes to exposures in the
VTT:
- If an exposure is part of a pattern it cannot be moved.
- If an exposure has a SAME POS special requirement it cannot be
moved or rotated
- If an exposure is part of a visit with a SAME ORIENT or ORIENT
FROM special requirement, it cannot be rotated.
You will have to make changes to the proposal and then display the
results in the VTT.
