Tool Bar Along the Top
There are 13 buttons on the top toolbar. Most of these features are available
from the menus, but are here as short cuts.
Target
This brings you to the Image
Chooser for quick retrieval of an image from the DSS. If you have coordinates
or a target name that SIMBAD or NED can resolve, this is all you need to
get started.
The next ten buttons are toggle buttons that turn various VTT features
on and off. When the feature is on, the button is highlighted.
Negative
Toggles the display of the current image as a negative of the original
image.
Exposures
Toggles the display of apertures outlines in the target area.
Fiducial
Toggles marking the fiducial point of the displayed apertures with a dot.
The fiducial point is the point in the aperture where the targeted position
(RA, Dec) will be placed.
Labels
Toggles the display of exposure labels. These can be useful when working
with multiple exposures.
Circles
Toggles the display of observation circles. This is useful for
considering orientation constraints. (The
objects in the inner circle will be observed reguardless of
orientation and the objects between the inner and outer circles may be
observed depending on orientation.)
FOV
Toggles the display of the observatory's entire field-of-view (FOV),
with the target position at the fiducial point of the current aperture.
Enabling this option causes the "Show Exposures" option to be turned
on.
Targets
Toggles the display of the target crosshair.
Catalogs
Enables the Catalog Overlay feature.
This initiates an internet search of the selected catalogs and plots the
results on the target area. There may be a delay in plotting the objects
while the search is conducted.
Grid
Overlays a world coordinate system on the image.
Bright Objects
Brings up a dialog for the Bright Object
Tool to check for field objects that may be physically damaging to
the detector or may be detrimental to the science data quality of the observation.
Save
This button saves changes made to targets, exposures and visits (positions and
orientations) in the VTT back to the proposal.
Reset
This button resets the VTT display from the contents of the proposal file. Any unsaved changes made in the VTT are discarded.
