Operator tried to find a star for focusing for 20 minutes, and failed to do it. Focus is blind (was goot at this value in the first part of the night). Starting exposing the galaxy: star6-9: Malin 2, 4 x 30 min. Slit oriented E-W, i.e. ~40 deg. off the major axis. SDSS: seeing ~ 1.0-1.2" star10-13: Malin 2. Slit oriented by PA ~39.5 deg (in the sense of galactic PA) i.e. it is ~ 10 deg off the major axis, to pass through a bright knot in the spiral arm in the 4th quadrant, (rot = -50.5), and possibly another one (it may be a foreground star, too!) in the opposite direction.) (star 12: seeing ~ 1.4"?) arc8, 9 - He Ne Ar arc lamps with 30 sec and 60 sec exposure star 14: Feige34_std. Started late (right behind 15-degree twilight, which is at 11:53UT) because of problems with tracking that operator fixed. star 15: same, 30 sec exposure fwhm ~5.5 pix (*0.3 pix/") - note that this is a very bright star star16: GD153_std star17: same, 30 sec.
